DEVRY UNIVERSITY DECATUR CAMPUS MOVE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where is the new campus located?
We are moving into the large, blue glass building in downtown Decatur, next to the old courthouse and adjacent to the Decatur MARTA train station.
What is the address?
One West Court Square
Suite 100
Decatur GA 30030
Is the building new?
The building was first constructed 30 years ago. It is currently undergoing a major renovation for us. Bathrooms have been redone; exterior glass has been replaced; interior walls were constructed to our specifications; the HVAC, phone, and networking equipment is all new; and carpet is being replaced. Virtually the only thing we did not change is the concrete floors; everything else has been replaced or refurbished.
Where will we park? Will we have to pay to park?
DeVry has leased parking space in the parking deck next door to our new location. The parking fee structure for staff, faculty and students remains the same. Parking tokens will be available to issue to visitors, such as contractors or prospective students.
Is there a location for over-flow parking?
Our reserved parking should be adequate, but occasionally overflow may be needed. In addition to the spaces DeVry reserved in the deck next to the campus, there are two deck levels of unassigned and visitor parking in the same parking deck available to all building tenants on a 'first-come' basis. These may require getting a ticket validated or handing out a parking token- exact details have not yet been worked out, as a renovation plan for the deck has not yet been finalized. If these spaces are also full, then there are also over 300 metered and 1,500 deck / lot parking spaces within two blocks of the new campus.
Is the building easily accessible from mass transit?
Yes! The MARTA train station and bus station are both right next door. Take the bus or train to the “Decatur Station” stop, and exit the West side of the station.
Do we have the entire building?
DeVry will be the major tenant, with space on the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th floors. Other tenants include The Art Institute of Atlanta, Quizno’s Subs, Associated Credit Union, and the DeKalb Country Prosecutor’s Office.
Will the main phone number change?
The 404.292.7900 main number is on a different exchange from the new location, so it cannot be transferred to the new building. The new main number is 404-270-2700. The old main number will forward for six months after the final move date.
Will my extension change?
Yes, with the new Voice Over IP system everyone will have a new number. The number will be 7 digits beginning with “274” and will allow direct inward dialing to your desk. Adjunct and IC employees will be issued a new voicemail extension as well.
Will my fax number change?
Yes. Old fax numbers will forward for six months when the new number is operating.
When do classes start at the new building?
January 5, 2009.
When do we move in?
Construction will be complete September 19. A schedule of functional/departmental move-ins is currently being finalized. Admissions staff with a cross-departmental support team will be the first to move in, while everyone else will move later so as not to disrupt classes or registration for the fall term.
Where is my office?
Planning down to that detail has not been finalized - this information will come down through your manager once everything is completed.
What about food service? Vending? Employee coffee rooms?
The new campus will have employee coffee rooms, and there will be some vending machines, both in our space and in the building common areas. Additionally, the Follet bookstore will sell an expanded line of food and drink offerings. The campus is within easy walking distance of over two dozen food/drink choices, ranging from fast food to casual to fine dining.
Will the new location have wireless Internet access?
Yes! Wireless will service the entire campus, plus the neighboring outside seating area.
Will there be adequate signage so our students and prospective students can find us?
Yes. The DeVry name will be prominent along the roofline at the top of the building and above the Admission’s Office entrance. Plus smaller signs will be added along the sidewalks and lobbies of the building with both the DeVry and Keller logos. Ample signage will be placed around the old campus, directing people to the new location.
How will this move be communicated to the students?
In addition to the informal broadcast emails that have already been circulated, every student will be mailed a letter informing them of the move, the timeframe, and the address of the new location. In addition, signs will be posted at all the Atlanta Metro locations.
What kind of building Security will we have at night and going to and from the Parking Deck?
The building has its own security guard on duty in the building lobby from 7 am until 7 pm. DeVry's in-house Security Department will provide the same coverage (until 11:30 pm weekdays and 6:30 pm Saturdays) as our current location. Office and educational areas, as well as the main building lobby, will have video surveillance; DeVry areas will be protected by an alarm system. Each classroom and lab will be equipped with a telephone, which will provide a 'hot button' to contact Security, as well as having the ability to receive "reverse-911" calls from the Siren Emergency system. The campus will also be equipped with a PA system for use during emergencies.
Will visitors sign in downstairs before being allowed to go upstairs?
No, there is no sign in desk in the building.
Will we have a card key for after hour’s entry, i.e. Saturday and Sunday?
Staff, faculty, and students will have access to the new campus during the same hours they have access to the current campus. A limited number of key cards will be issued to allow building entry after 6 pm, on Saturdays and on Sundays in case of emergency. Key cards will be limited to those who have key and alarm access to the current Decatur campus, i.e. I.T., Facilities, and Security.
Will there be a Commons like we have now and will we have places to study in groups, other than the Library?
Instead of a single large commons, the new campus will have several smaller lounge areas on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors. Each will be equipped with an Internet bar, and round tables with seating for eating, studying, and group work. Some will also have soft seating, and one will have a flat panel TV. The first floor Library will have more soft seating, round tables, and computers for studying than the current Library. The entire campus will have wireless Internet access, including the exterior courtyard. There will be vending machines on the first and fourth floors, and the bookstore will sell an expanded line of food, drinks, and snacks on the fifth floor.
Will there be the same access to labs as we now have?
Yes, the labs will be accessible exactly like the ones in the current campus. The new campus includes an Open Lab, a GSP studio, an Electronics Lab, and 9 lecture labs (two with networking equipment). Additionally, the wireless points will allow students with laptops to connect to the Internet from anywhere on campus, including the exterior courtyard.
