Co-Op/Internship
DeVry University Career Services encourages all students to obtain an internship to gain "real world" experience before graduation. Some of our degree programs offer academic credit for internships. Internships can be part-time or full-time, and flexible based on the needs of the employer and the schedule of the student.
The co-op/internship program is a "self-directed" job search program. Self-directed means any student can search for internships and respond to the leads. Follow-up through a second fax, email or phone call is advised.
DeVry works aggressively to secure co-op and internship positions and refer students to these leads. Because employment opportunities depend on local business conditions, DeVry cannot guarantee co-op or internships positions to students.
In order to be enrolled in the program, students must:
- Attend an orientation conducted by the internship coordinator
- Complete an enrollment form
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher for resume referrals and on campus interviews
- Provide an unofficial copy of transcript

FAQ:
What can an Internship or Co-op do for you?
Statistics show that college graduates who participate in an internship or co-op are more likely to stay with their employers after graduation. Employers conclude that students who have had an internship or co-op before graduating have gained some basic training in the field. This puts them at a competitive advantage.
When is the best time to start looking for an internship or co-op position?
It is recommended that students be in their 3rd term or 4th term. However, I suggest that students begin to research their career field of interest and look for internships and co-op positions as soon as they get settled at DeVry.
What is the difference between an internship and co-op position?
An internship is work experience related to a student's major and/or career interest that takes place during a semester or in the summer. It can be paid or unpaid.
Cooperative Education (Co-op) allows students to combine academic study with periods of career related paid work experience in business, industry, government or not-for-profit agencies under the supervision of the employer. Students earn experience through alternating co-op work semesters. Internships and co-ops can be part-time or full-time.

Operating Policies for the EXPERIENCEGEORGIA Program
- These institutions reserve the right to refuse entry to the EXPERIENCEGEORGIA system if your position is not deemed an internship with a developmental learning component. If there are any questions regarding your posting, you will be contacted.
- An internship is an experience consisting of substantive and supervised work that complements a student's academic program. It is distinguished from other work experiences because it is directly related to a student's program of study and has clearly defined learning objectives. In addition, it provides the opportunity to develop and practice leadership skills by applying academic solutions to real life problems. The long-term goal of any internship is to develop mutually beneficial relationships between students, businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
- Part-time and full-time positions that are not considered internships may be posted to MonsterTrak for a fee
