About Career Services

DeVry maintains very active career services centers to help graduates attain positions in their fields of academic specialization. These professionals keep in contact with local and national employers to keep abreast of employment needs and opportunities across the country. In addition, students complete the Career Development course, which covers topics such as self evaluation, personal marketing strategies, resume and cover letter preparation and interviewing techniques. During this course, students also assemble career development portfolios.

Services to Students and Graduates

To most effectively assist DeVry graduates in securing career employment, a close cooperative effort between Career Services and the graduate is essential. To meet this challenge, the Career Services Office provides the following services and resource materials to current and alumni graduates:

Career Advisors

Advisors assist and advise graduates in all facets of the job search for successful placement prior to and after graduation.

Career Development Course

This course develops the skills, knowledge, and awareness of the professional attitudes and values that allow students to maximize their career potential. Students are provided with planning and marketing tools which will enable them to take charge of their job search activities and make intelligent career decisions. The Career Development Course enhances students' attitudes, values, abilities, and knowledge in a manner that will contribute most significantly to their employability and career success. Workshops, industry and alumni guest speakers, and lectures are provided with the emphasis on interviewing, self-marketing techniques, and job search ethics.

Mock Interviews

Offered to students in order to provide preparation for successful interviewing. Mock interviews are conducted by Career Services Advisors and students are provided with appropriate advice and counseling.

Employer Recruiting

The Career Services Office provides students the opportunity to interview with employers both on and off campus. DeVry-Atlanta brings companies to our campus to recruit graduates. Additionally, we arrange off-site interviews with local employers.

Co-op

DeVry and industry form a partnership to provide relevant, education related part-time work experience for students and an excellent source of personnel for employers. Co-op establishes a relationship beneficial to employers, the university, and the students.

Resource Material/Equipment

Includes the use of telephones, private rooms, faxing, resume mailing service, job listings, and employer profiles.

Career Services Guidelines

  1. Career Services abides by the principles and practices of the National Association of Colleges and Employees (NACE).

  2. When interfacing with company representatives for testing, presentation, or interviewing, appropriate interview attire is required.

  3. Attendance is mandatory for company testing or presentation held as part of the interview              process.

  4. Adequately plan your travel time to arrive approximately 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

  5. Cancellation of scheduled interviews is strongly discouraged.  Interviewing indicates a genuine interest in the company and position.  This is not an opportunity for practicing your interviewing skills. If you are uncertain, discuss this with your advisor prior to scheduling the interview.

  6. In the event of an emergency on the day of your interview, contact your advisor as soon as possible.  If this is an off-campus interview, also contact the company.

  7. Not showing for a test or interview is not acceptable. A letter of apology is to be written to the company and a copy of the letter is given to your advisor.  Not showing or cancellation of interviews may result in termination of interviewing privileges or other office services.  If you must cancel an interview, please do so with as much notice as possible and preferably with a minimum of 24 hours notice.

  8. Please remain flexible regarding interview times.  On occasion, travel delays/cancellations, and other events will affect the interview schedule.  We will provide you with as much notice as possible regarding these types of changes.

  9. Prior to any interview, conduct research on the company.

  10. Maintain regular contact with your advisor during your interview process.

  11. Students and Graduates will conduct an active self-directed job search.

  12. Acceptance of a job offer means you are no longer seeking employment.  Please notify   your advisor as soon as possible. Reneging on an offer is not supported by our office. If you are unsure about accepting an offer, we recommend discussing the matter with the company and your advisor.  Acceptance is a verbal commitment from both parties.

Services to Employers

As a "one call, no cost solution" to meeting employer hiring needs, several services are provided to the employer. These include:

Organized Events

Several activities are developed, organized and/or cosponsored by the Career Services Office. These functions provide advice and expertise from employers in keeping program curricula current; provide an informal forum to establish communication and an exchange of ideas amongst the industry, professors and students; and expose our students to "real world" situations.

Advisory Board

The purpose of Advisory Boards is to reinforce DeVry's educational philosophy of an up-to-date curriculum that produces students who meet the changing needs of employers in today's job market. Employers provide our academic Deans and Faculty with input on our curriculum.

Senior Project Fair

This event is a display of Senior Projects developed by DeVry's Bachelor of Science Degrees in EET, NCM , CIS and CET individuals or project teams to highlight the DeVry philosophy of applying hands-on training with textbook theories.
